SEEING THE FUTURE
GETTING KIDS ON CAMPUS HELPS THEM VISUALIZE COLLEGE – MOVING FROM “WHO, ME? TO “YES, ME!”
In addition to weekly student workshops at local schools, the NEW Scholars program added in a monthly visit to a local college/university for the 2021-22 school year. Once there, staff and current college students lead our NEW Scholars in activities and learning opportunities focused on a specific area of study, and team-building & character development exercises.
“The opportunity to experience college life is extremely beneficial for every prospective college student, but especially for first-generation students,” says NEW Scholars Director Carmen Vos. “Being immersed in the campus environment really helps them see themselves as future college students, which reinforces their commitment and boosts their confidence.”
NEW Scholars also have the opportunity to visit other schools throughout the year. They recently traveled to UW-Oshkosh (pictured above), and will visit UW-Madison later this spring.
“We are so thankful for our partnerships with NWTC and UW-Green Bay; they have created so many opportunities for our students and families this year,” explains Carmen.
The partnership with UW-Green Bay has extended to welcoming parents on campus for their monthly parent workshops, too.
CollegeReady can’t say enough about how valuable these on-campus experiences are for our first-generation NEW Scholars and their families, and we’re thankful for our friends and community partners who help make them possible!

WORKING FOR WHAT SHE LOVES
THANKS TO YOU, SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT HANNAH CAN PURSUE OPPORTUNITIES OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM
“I’m a sophomore at Saint Louis University…and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. With your help, I am able to double major in Sports Business and Human Resource Management and minor in Dance. Along with this, I’m on my school’s Division 1 dance team, which has been an amazing, but also very challenging, experience.
After college, I hope to become a high school athletic director, and this scholarship is helping me take the steps to get there. I want to encourage kids to get involved and help instill the values of hard work and teamwork through sports.
I can’t thank you enough for this scholarship. I may be very busy with my commitments but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Because of you, I can do what I love and work toward the future of my dreams.”
