NEW Scholars Programming Coach

What’s the best part about working at CollegeReady?

The best part about working at CollegeReady is getting to work with students who are so motivated to succeed.  From my first day at NEW Scholars, it was obvious that students truly care about their future and are eager to put in the work to make their individual dreams a reality.  They understand how the work we do in the classroom translates into future success, and it is exciting to be there to help them along the way of realizing their full potential, acting as a catalyst for that growth.  The supportive nature of this program has also been inspiring to witness.  These students have so many people in their corner – from family members to CollegeReady staff – and being a part of the team that is helping them reach their goals is a great feeling.

How did your education or previous life experiences prepare you for your role here?

As a current first-generation college student myself, I feel especially connected to the purpose of CollegeReady and being a resource for soon-to-be college students.  I understand how important it is to have a support system throughout all parts of preparing and transitioning to college, and successfully navigating the college experience has prepared me to transition from student to mentor.  This December, I will be graduating St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, which has given me the tools to understand the intersecting social factors that impact everyone individually.  With this knowledge, I feel prepared to really see every student’s social situation and help them achieve success, overcoming obstacles by tapping into their own unique experiences.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

My weekends are usually spent visiting family, enjoying nature, or reading a good book.  I love getting outside whenever I can, whether that means biking, walking, playing with my dog Bandit, or helping on the family farm.  On bad weather days, you can find me listening to a podcast and baking.

What's your favorite snack food?

White Cheddar Cheez-Its, pretzels, and M&Ms together.
