Scholarship Application Review

Each year, CollegeReady mobilizes about 60 community-spirited volunteers to review and evaluate scholarship applications submitted by local high school seniors. This process is called “Scholarship Selection.”

Volunteers review and score scholarship applications in our Cloud-based online system, with a  comprehensive training provided. Volunteers should be objective, unbiased, and comfortable using a computer.

The estimated time commitment is about 4-8 hours in March/April.

NEW Scholars After-School Programming

NEW Scholars, a college readiness after-school program, is looking for classroom volunteers to work directly with students who are the first in their family to go to college. Students in our program are enrolled in grades 6 through 12 at four schools in the Green Bay Area Public School District.  Volunteers who are passionate about youth and education are encouraged to apply!

The estimated time commitment for a volunteer is 2-3 hours per after-school session. Sessions occur each week Monday through Thursday from 3:00-5:00pm each week; volunteers can sign up to volunteer on a specific day or on multiple days, depending on their interest and availability.

Working directly with students in our NEW Scholars program requires a background check—after submitting a Volunteer Registration form, our staff will reach out to assist with this process.

Board of Directors

This leadership team plays a critical role in the strategic direction and governance. Working with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors is responsible for the overall governance of the organization.  While setting policies and monitoring operations, board members ensure that CollegeReady is achieving its mission while serving as ambassadors and advocates. The board typically meets monthly and terms are for three years.

The estimated time commitment for CollegeReady board members is 2-3 hours each month.

Finance Committee

Responsible for the financial functions of the organization, the Finance Committee is made up of finance processionals with accounting or investment experience. They oversee and make recommendations relating to investment management, budgeting, and asset allocation for the organization.

The Finance Committee meets quarterly or as needed. The estimated time commitment is 2-3 hours each quarter.

Fund Development Committee

The Fund Development Committee is responsible for the organization’s fundraising and stewardship including annual appeal, special events, planned giving, and donor relations. The group meets quarterly or as needed, and is comprised of engaged volunteers with an interest and/or experience in fund development.

The time commitment is about 2-3 hours each quarter.

NEW Scholars Committee

This group of educational professionals with an interest in underrepresented student populations is tasked with monitoring and evaluating the NEW Scholars college readiness program. Responsibilities include program measurements and outcomes.

The NEW Scholars Committee meets quarterly; the estimated time commitment is about 2-3 hours per quarter.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee recommends guidelines and evaluates criteria for the scholarship application and selection process, and is made up of professionals in education, or individuals with an interest in scholarship processes. The group meets semi-annually or as needed.

We recommend that those who are interested in joining this committee sign up to evaluate scholarship applications first—please see the Scholarship Application Review tab above.

The estimated time commitment is approximately 3-5 hours each year.

Special Events

Every summer, CollegeReady hosts special events with the goal of raising funds, recognizing special individuals, promoting educational opportunities, and celebrating the organization’s noteworthy accomplishments.

During our annual Lamp of Knowledge Celebration, our scholarship recipients proudly accept their awards in front of friends, family, donors, and community members, and we introduce our incoming cohort of NEW Scholars program participants.

Volunteers can help staff with event planning and promotion, or day-of responsibilities such as setup, tear down and assisting during the event as needed.

The estimated time commitment for this special event is 3-4 hours.
